Biographical/Historical:     The Honorable Alexander L. McCaskill was born in Kershaw, South Carolina in 1829. In 1852, he moved to Walton County, Florida and started farming. Active in politics, he was a member of the Florida Secession Convention and in 1868 was elected to the State Senate, where he served until 1877. From 1874 to 1875, he was president pro tempore of the Senate. He also served as a County Commissioner in Walton County. His family pioneered that area of Florida and played an important role in the Euchee Valley settlement.

Summary:     This collection contains land records of the McCaskill family from 1829 to 1861. Early Scottish settlers of Walton County, they made their home in Euchee Valley in the 1820s. The records include certificates of sale for federal and state lands to members of the McCaskill family. Also included is a list of judges' probate fees against the estate of John Campbell of Marianna, Florida in 1852.
