Biographical/Historical:     In the late 1910's, Dr. William Bierman toured the State of Florida on a lecture circuit under the auspices of the Florida State Board of Health, the U.S. Public Health Service, and the American Social Hygiene Association. While he was not lecturing, he found time to photograph scenes from his travels in the cities, towns and rural areas of the state.

Summary:     The lantern slides in this collection depict various Florida scenes. Dr. William Bierman took them with a Graflex camera and they were later hand-tinted. Used for projecting photographs to audiences, the lantern slide is an image on glass usually measuring 3.5 x 4 inches. These slides show interesting geographic sights, industries and natural resources in Florida prior to 1920. The slides represent all parts of the state, including Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Palm Beach, Miami, Tampa, Tallahassee, Pensacola and many other towns.
