Biographical/Historical:     Calhoun County was created by an act of the Legislative Council on January 26, 1838.  Originally part of Washington and Jackson counties, Calhoun underwent several boundary changes until 1925. The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series consists of a microfilm copy of the records of land sold for taxes of Calhoun County, Florida from 1893 to 1928.  If real estate taxes had not been paid by the first of April of any year, the land was liable for sale at auction by the county tax collector.  The records of sales include certificate number, description of the land, number of acres, name of owner, assessed value, taxes and expenses, to whom it was sold, date of redemption or sale of certificate, by whom redeemed or by whom purchased, and if deeded, to whom.  The records do not contain indexes.
