Marriage record books consist of the recorded copies of marriage licenses.  They document when a couple applied for the marriage license, when they were married, and who performed the ceremony. The marriage record books are indexed by grooms' names.
Marriage licenses are printed documents which the couple took to the individual who performed the wedding ceremony.  That person filled out the portion of the license certifying that the marriage took place and the license was returned to the clerk of the court. Applications for marriage licenses and parental consents can be found with some of the marriage licenses.  These documents may contain more information about a couple such as their ages, race, birthplaces, and parents' names.
