Summary:     This collection consists of the marriage records of Pasco County, Florida, from 1887 to 1972.  The documents include marriage record books (1887-1972); a register of common law marriages (1960, 1966, 1967); general indexes to marriages (1887-1972) registers of marriage licenses issued (1889-1919); and marriage license affidavits (1917-1926).

Marriage licenses are printed documents which a couple took to the individual performing the wedding ceremony as proof that they could be legally married.  That person filled out the portion of the license certifying that the marriage took place, and the license was returned to the clerk of court.  Marriage record books consist of recorded copies of marriage licenses.  They document when acouple applied for the marriage license, when they were married, and who performed the ceremony.  Affidavits for marriage licenses state a couple's ages at the time of application.  If either of the couple were underage, the affidavit contains a parent's or guardian's consent for the marriage to take place.
