Summary:     This collection consists of the probate records of Pasco County, Florida, from 1887 to 1967.  The series includes probate record books (1928-1967); probate dockets (1940-1967); probate court minutes (1946-1961); petitions and orders (1887-1960); bond records (1887-1934); claims records on deceased estates (1928-1938); inventories and appraisements (1894-1928); records of probate letters (1887-1918); letters testamentary (1919-1961); records of minors' lands sold (1929-1936); miscellaneous probate records (1913-1936); and records of wills (1887-1932).
Probate is the transfer of property title and rights and of legal responsibility for payment of taxes or custody from the deceased to another party, from a person judged incompetent or insane, or from a minor to an appointed guardian.  Probate records document the administration and distribution of an individual's estate after death.  This series contains a variety of probate records, including wills, which dispose of a person's property; petitions to the probate court; orders handed down by the court; estate inventories and property appraisals; letters appointing estate administrators and guardians; and the bonds of the guardians and administrators.
The Probate Record books (1928-1967) contain all types of probate records with no apparent arrangement; the probate dockets serve as an index to those books.  Most of the other volumes in the series contain an internal index.
