Biographical/Historical:     Daytona, located in Volusia County, Florida on the Atlantic coast, was incorporated as the Town of Daytona in 1883 (Ch. 3481, Laws).  It became the City of Daytona in 1897 (Ch. 4640, Laws).  The City Tax Collector's Office was responsible for the collection of local taxes.  Legislation passed in December, 1925 abolished the City of Daytona, Town of Daytona Beach, and Town of Seabreeze and created one municipal government known as the City of Daytona Beach (1925, Ch. 10466, Ch. 11461, Laws).
Summary:     This collection contains tax records maintained by the Tax Collector's Office of the City of Daytona and its predecessor, the Town of Daytona.  The collection consists of three groups of records:  tax assessment rolls, records of tax sales, and road and sidewalk tax assessments.
    The tax assessment rolls record real and personal taxes.  The type of information in the real tax rolls include date of tax receipt, description of land, name of owner, value of land, value of improvements, school tax mills, special assessment, and total value.  The personal tax rolls include date of tax receipt, name of owner, number of horses and cattle, value of animals, school tax mills, and total tax.
    The tax sale records are made up of tax sale certificates, city budgets, funds with the city treasurer, and tax sales.
    The road and sidewalk tax assessment rolls detail the tax and special assessments for road work.  The materials include areas of improvement, the total cost of work, and the amount paid by the City.
