Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Legislative Council created Escambia County on July 21, 1821. The county originally encompassed "all the country lying between the Perdido and Suwaney Rivers." On February 18, 1842, the Legislative Council created Santa Rosa from a portion of Escambia County. Thereafter, Escambia County consisted of the land from the Alabama state line to the Escambia River. The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.

Summary:     This collection contains the official record of property and livestock marks and brands registered with the Escambia County Clerk of Court. The entries generally include a written description of the marks made in an animal's ears to show ownership, plus a representation of the owner's brand. An index is included at the beginning of the volume.
