Biographical/Historical:     Mississippi provided pensions for Civil War service to indigent Confederate veterans or their widows, primarily after 1900, although a few pensions were awarded in the 1890s.
Summary:     This series consists of microfilm of pension application files of Confederate veterans or their widows for Civil War service. Veterans' applications provide such information as name, age, place of residence, military unit, names of unit officers, date of discharge, length of service, medical condition, property ownership, income, and person or persons with whom the applicant lived. Widows' applications generally provide husband's name, date and place of marriage, and date and place of husband's death.
