Biographical/Historical:     Adele Graham, wife of Governor Bob Graham, served as Florida's First Lady from 1979 to 1987.  Born Adele Khoury, she was raised in Miami Shores and attended the University of Florida where she met and eventually married Bob Graham in 1959.  She then transferred to Boston University to complete her degree as her husband entered Harvard Law School. They moved back to south Florida in 1962 and had four daughters.  As First Lady, Adele Graham promoted the funding and development of programs to serve Florida's elderly community, as well as the expansion of volunteer services in public schools throughout the state.  Daniel Robert "Bob" Graham was the thirty-eighth Governor of Florida, serving two terms from January 2, 1979 to January 3, 1987. Graham was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1966 and then to the state Senate in 1970.

Summary:     The series contains incoming and outgoing correspondence  and related materials concerning subjects of interest to First Lady Adele Graham.  A majority of the records reflect her interest in concerns regarding the elderly and the problems associated with aging.  Other topics discussed include transportation, rehabilitation, volunteer and employment opportunities, Medicaid, alcohol abuse, hospice, geriatrics, fitness, and continuing education for the elderly.  Other correspondence documents the interests and concerns of Florida citizens in the 1980s, ranging from child abuse and care to selling of alcoholic beverages and local community affairs. .
