Biographical/Historical:     In 1995, the House Committee on Utilities and Telecommunications (1995-1996, 1998-2002, 2005-2008), became a standing committee under the provisions of Ch. 68-35, Laws.  In 1997, the name of the committee was changed to House Committee on Utilities and Communications.  However, the name was changed back to the House Committee on Utilities & Telecommunications in 1998. 

    The Committee reviews legislation on public utilities; including water, wastewater and electrical utilities; and telecommunications.  These functions had previously been part of the House Committee on Regulated Services and Technology (1990-1992) and the House Committee on Business and Professional Regulation (1992-1995).  In addition, there was also a House Select Committee on Telecommunications in 1994.
Summary:     This series contains the audiotaped recordings of the House Committee on Utilities and Telecommunications from 1995 - 1996.  In 1997, the name of the committee was changed to Utilities and Communications.  The tapes document committee meetings, subcommittee meetings, and public forums.  This series also contains the audiotapes of the House Select Committee on Telecommunications from 1994.  Among the many topics discussed are public utilities, investor utilities, consumer services, the "911" emergency system, telecommunications systems, and high technological industries.  The tapes are not transcribed or indexed.
