Biographical/Historical:     In 1974, the House Committee on Regulated Industries and Licensing (1974-1988) became a standing committee with a permanent staff under the provisions of Ch. 68-35, Laws. The Committee reviewed legislation on pari-mutuel wagering; the lottery; alcoholic beverage, tobacco, and hospitality industries; professional and occupational licensing; real estate business; financial institutions; consumer protection; and public utilities regulation.
    These functions had previously been divided between the Committee on Business Regulation (1970-1974) and the Committee on General Legislation (1968-1974). From 1973 to 1976, an investigation into fraudulent mortgage sales was conducted by the Select Committee on Fraudulent Mortgage Sales. In 1988, the Committee on Regulated Industries and Licensing was abolished. Its functions were divided between the Committee on Regulated Industries and the Committee on Science, Industry, and Technology.

Summary:     This series contains recordings of House Committee on Regulated Industries and Licensing (1975-1988), Committee on Business Regulation (1970-1972), and the Committee on General Legislation (1970-1974). The recordings document committee and subcommittee meetings and contain discussion on legislation pertaining to pari-mutuel wagering; the lottery; alcoholic beverage, tobacco, and hospitality industries; professional and occupational licensing; real estate business; financial institutions; consumer protection; and public utilities regulation.
