Biographical/Historical:     In 1970, the House Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services (1970-1992) became a standing committee with a permanent staff under the provisions of Ch. 68-35, Laws.  The Committee assumed the functions of the House Committee on Mental Health (1968-1970) and Public Health and Welfare (1968-1970). The Committee reviewed legislation on public health; public welfare; state institutions; elderly and indigent care; medical care and health facilities; rehabilitation; children, youth, and family services; migrant labor; human rights; and other social services.
    In 1986, the functions related to health care were assumed by the House Committee on Health Care (1987-1996, 2003-2006). In 1992, the Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services was abolished.
Summary:     This series contains recordings of Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services (1973 to 1992) meetings. It also includes recordings from the Select Committee on Retardation (1974); Select Committee on Human Rights (1975-1976); the Select Committee on Generic Drugs (1978); the Select Committee on Health Care Cost Containment and Planning (1981-1982); Youth (1986-1988); Children and Youth (1989-1990); and the Joint Select Committee on Abused Children (1989-1990). The recordings contain discussion on legislation pertaining to public health; public welfare; state institutions; elderly and indigent care; medical care and health facilities; rehabilitation; children, youth, and family services; human rights; and other social services.
