	Biographical/Historical:	In 1968, the House Committee on Transportation (1968-1988; 1990-present) became a standing committee with a permanent staff under the provisions of Ch. 68-35, Laws. The committee reviews legislation on transportation, highways, and traffic safety. From 1968 to 1970, the functions were divided between the House Committee on Transportation and the House Committee on Public Safety. The House Committee on Public Safety handled the functions related to highway and motor vehicle safety. From 1988 to 1990, the House Committee on Transportation was abolished, and its functions were assigned to the House Committee on Highway Safety and Construction and the House Committee on Public Transportation. In 1990, the House Committee on Transportation was recreated, and the two committees were merged again.
	Summary:	The series contains the records of the House Committee on Transportation, the House Committee on Public Transportation, and the House Committee on Public Safety. It documents legislation on air travel and airports; shipping and ports; motor vehicles; mass transit and public transportation; state and local highway systems; and traffic safety and regulations. The records include bill files and meeting files for the House Committee on Transportation (1975-1988; 1990-1998) and the House Committee on Public Transportation (1989). It also includes subject files and correspondence from 1968 to 1970 for the House Committee on Public Safety and the House Committee on Transportation; and correspondence from 1974 of the Transportation Committee Task Force on Fuel Allocation. The committee records from 1971 to 1974 are missing. The records of the House Committee on Highway Safety and Construction (1989-1990) are located in Series RHHTY.
