In 1968, the House Committee on Rules and Calendar (1968-1996) became a standing committee with a permanent staff under the provisions of Ch. 68-35, Laws. The Committee is responsible for setting the regular, special order, local bill, and consent legislative calendars and committee meeting schedules. It reviews most bills, with particular emphasis on all types of resolutions and revisor's bills. It also considers rule changes and points of order.
The committee has had several name changes over the years, including: Rules, Resolutions and Ethics Committee (1997-1998), Rules, Ethics and Elections Committee (2001-2002), Rules and Calendar Committee (2003-2004, 2011- 2014), Rules, Calendar and Ethics Committee (2015-2016), and Rules and Policy Committee (2017-2018).
