Biographical/Historical:     In 1988, the Senate Committee on Insurance (1988-1990) became a standing committee with a permanent staff under the provisions of Ch. 68-35, Laws.  The Committee reviewed legislation on all aspects of the insurance code.  Prior to 1988, insurance legislation was reviewed by the Senate Committee on Insurance (1968-1970); the Senate Select Committee on Insurance (1970-1971); and the Senate Committee on Commerce (1971-1988).  In 1990, the Senate Committee on Insurance was abolished, and the Senate Committee on Commerce was again assigned the task of reviewing insurance legislation.
Summary:     This series contains audiotaped recordings of the Senate Committee on Insurance (1970; 1989-1990).  The tapes document committee and subcommittee meetings and contain discussion on legislation related to the insurance code; insurance companies; insurance rates and contracts; insurance fraud; state insurance programs and trust funds; workers' compensation; and tort reform. Types of insurance covered are health, life, motor vehicle, property, fire, casualty, liability, unemployment, and malpractice. The tapes are not transcribed or indexed.
