Biographical/Historical:     In 1973, the Senate Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services (1973-1996) became a standing committee with a permanent staff under the provisions of Ch. 68-35, Laws.  From 1968 to 1973, this committee was known as the Senate Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions.  In 1988, some of this Committee's functions were transferred to the Senate Committee on Health Care.  In 1990, the Senate Committee on Health Care became a subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services.
    TheCommittee reviews legislation on public health; public welfare; state institutions; elderly and indigent care; medical care; rehabilitation; family services; and social services.  The social services reform was reviewed by the Senate Select Committee on Social Services Reform from 1995 to 1996.
Summary:     This series contains the audiotaped recordings of the Senate Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services from 1973 to 1996, and its predecessor, the Senate Committee on Health, Welfare, and Institutions (1969-1972).  This series also contains the audiotapes of the Senate Select Committee on Social Services Reform and the audiotapes of the Senate Committee on H.R.S. Reorganization (1990-1991). 

    The tapes document committee and subcommittee meetings and contain discussion on legislation pertaining to public health; public welfare; health facilities and state institutions; elderly and indigent care; medical care; rehabilitation; family services; and social services. The tapes are not transcribed or indexed.
