Biographical/Historical:     Daniel Robert "Bob" Graham was the thirty-eighth Governor of Florida, serving from January 2, 1979 to January 3, 1987. Graham was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1966 and then to the State Senate in 1970. Serving two terms as Governor, Graham dealt with the influx of Cuban and Haitian refugees, supported Florida's reintroduction of the death penalty, and introduced environmental legislation to save Florida's water resources. Graham was elected United States Senator in 1986.

Summary:     The series contains incoming and outgoing correspondence of the Governor's Office from 1979 to 1986. The correspondence is mostly routine in nature; individuals seeking assistance with a problem, expressing opinions on a particular issue and legislation; or extending an invitation to or acknowledgment of a special event or occasion. Children's correspondence and memorabilia (drawings and scrapbooks) to Governor Graham from 1981 to 1986 are included in this series. This series also contains posters designed by Boca Raton Middle School students, Verde Elementary School students in the Before and After School Programs and the J.C. Mitchell Elementary School students in the After School Program; the posters were created for the Save Our Beaches / Spanish River Park Expansion campaigns and sent to Governor Graham in 1986.

The series also contains computer generated indexes to the correspondence. The index is arranged alphabetically by writer's name and includes the date of receipt, the assigned correspondence control number, a brief statement of subject matter, and to whom the letter was routed for reply. There are some gaps in the correspondence and the indexes.
