Biographical/Historical:     In 1973, the Senate Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services (1973-1995) became a standing committee with a permanent staff under the provisions of Ch. 68-35, Laws.  The Committee reviews legislation on public health; public welfare; health facilities and state institutions; elderly and indigent care; medical care; rehabilitation; family services; and social services.
    From 1968 to 1973, this committee was known as the Senate Committee on Health, Welfare, and Institutions.  In 1988, some of this Committee's functions were transferred to the Senate Committee on Health Care.  In 1990, the Senate Committee on Health Care became a subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services.  From 1990 to 1991, the Senate Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services Reorganization reviewed the legislation on the reorganization of the Dept. of Health and Rehabilitative Services.  In the 1996 Organizational session, the name was changed to the Senate Committee on Children, Families & Seniors.  In addition, there was also a Senate Select Committee on Social Services Reform (1995-1996).
Summary:     This series contains records of the Senate Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services (1973-1995); the Senate Committee on Health and Rehabilitative Services Reorganization (1990-1991); and its predecessor, the Senate Committee on Health, Welfare, and Institutions (1969-1973).  This series also contains the records of the Senate Select Committee on Social Services Reform (1995-1996).  The records include bill files, meeting files, subject files, and correspondence.  It documents legislation on public health; public welfare; health facilities and state institutions; elderly and indigent care; medical care; rehabilitation; family services; and social services.  In the November 1996 Organizational session, the name of this committee was changed to the Senate Committee on Children, Families & Seniors.  For Senate H.R.S. records after the 1996 regular session, please refer to the new committee.
