Biographical/Historical:     In 1976, the Senate Committee on Economic, Community, and Consumer Affairs (1976-1988) became a standing committee with a permanent staff under the provisions of Ch. 68-35, Laws.  The Committee reviewed legislation regarding economic development, community affairs, and consumer protection.  From 1985 to 1986, the responsibility of developing a state housing policy was assigned to the Senate Select Committee on Affordable Housing.
    In 1988, the Committee was dissolved; and its duties were divided between the Senate Committee on Economic, Professional, and Utility Regulation (1988-1990) and the Senate Committee on Community Affairs (1990-present).  In 1990, the Senate Committee on Economic, Professional, and Utility Regulation was divided into the Senate Committee on Professional Regulation (1990-present) and the Senate Committee on International Trade, Economic Development and Tourism (1990-present).
Summary:     The series contains the records of the Senate Committee on Economic, Community, and Consumer Affairs from 1976 to 1988.  The records include bill files, meeting files, and subject files.  It also contains the subject and meeting files of the Senate Select Committee on Affordable Housing from 1985 to 1986.  The records document legislation on local governments and intergovernmental relations; building codes and standards; housing; emergency preparedness; handicapped accessibility; veterans affairs; comprehensive and regional planning; international trade; tourism; professional regulation; occupational licensing; and public utilities.
