Biographical/Historical:     The Division of Child Welfare, part of the State Dept. of Public Welfare  to oversee the care and protection of dependent children. The Dept. of Public Welfare was created in 1937 (Ch. 18285, Laws) as part of the State Welfare Board.  The Division of Child Welfare managed aid to children and administered foster care and adoption program (Adoption Act of 1943, Ch. 21759, Laws).
Summary:     This series contains correspondence dating from 1961 to 1968 maintained by the Division of Child Welfare.  The correspondence documents efforts to place orphaned Cuban refugees in foster homes. Some correspondence is from individuals inquiring about becoming foster parents.  Other correspondence is from the Division to other state agencies regarding the placement of Cuban children.
