Summary:     This series contains Florida newspaper clippings collected in scrapbooks primarily by the State Board of Health for the years 1896 to 1948.  Volumes 1-6 deal with special topics.  Volume 1, dated 1888, falls outside the main date span and contains news accounts of the yellow fever epidemic in Jacksonville for that year.  Volumes 2, 4, and 5 deal with epidemics in Key West and Pensacola.  Volume 3 is the personal scrapbook of State Health Officer, Dr. Joseph Y. Porter, and volume 6 is the personal scrapbook of Dr. Hiram Byrd.
Volume 7-42 are State Board of Health scrapbooks which contain newspaper clippings relating to such diverse topics as communicable diseases, tuberculosis hospitals, quarantine, sanitary engineering, public health, veterinary public health, child welfare, and hookworm disease.  A gap in the chronology of these scrapbooks occurs for the years 1912-1921.  Some volumes are indexed, in which case the index covers the time span of one year.
