The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Division of Sunland Training Centers replaced the Florida Farm Colony for the Epileptic and Feeble Minded as a Division of the Board of Commissioners for State Institutions in 1961 (Laws, 61-427).  The Tallahassee Sunland Hospital moved into the physical plant formerly occupied by the W.T. Edwards tuberculosis hospital in March of 1967.  The hospital provided care for the profoundly disabled until 1983 when the patients were dispersed to group homes around the state.
Summary:     This series contains press clippings, photographs, newsletters, and miscellaneous correspondence that chronicle the existence of the hospital.  The majority of the information concerns the activities of the patients and their interaction with the volunteers who worked many hours with them.  Among the activities were Scouting, trips to baseball games, seasonal plays and parties, and Special Olympics.
