Terms Governing Use: Researchers seeking access to these records must submit a written request to S. Michelle Whitworth, Custodian of Records, Office of Clemency.  Requests can be faxed to 850.488.0695.  Requests must cite the Archives record series, the specific file(s) being requested, and the restriction that applies to those files.  Series and restriction information is below.  Ms. Whitworth will forward the request to the Governor's Office, which must approve each specific request, and will contact the researcher with a written response after receiving the response back from the Governor's Office.

Series 443, Florida State Board of Pardons, Application Case Files, Box__ , Folder (name)_____:

Restricted to permission of the Governor as per Florida Administrative Code, Title 27, Appendix, Rules of Executive Clemency, Rule 16:  ". . . all records and documents generated in the clemency process . . . are confidential and shall not be made available for inspection to any person except members of the Clemency Board and their staff.  The Governor has the sole discretion to allow records and documents to be inspected or copied."
Biographical/Historical:
Summary:     This series contains the applications case files from 1887 to 1975 of individuals who petitioned the State Board of Pardons for clemency or pardon, remittance of fines and forfeitures, commutations of punishment and restoration of civil rights.
    The series is divided into five subseries.  Subseries A contains applications for clemency and pardons only.  It does not contain any documentation of the Board's decision.  Subseries B also contains the same applications for clemency or pardon but in addition also contains applications for the other forms of relief that the Board could grant.  This subseries also contains the documentation of the Board's decisions.  Subseries C consists of correspondence with the Board regarding inmates and their applications for pardon.  Subseries D contains inactive and insufficient case file applications.  Subseries E contains probation court case transcripts and supporting documentation.
    This series is continued in the records of the Office of Executive Clemency, Series S1091.  Included in Series S1091 are application case files of the State Board of Pardons from 1972 to 1975.
