Summary:     This series contains outgoing and incoming correspondence for the State Board of Pardons.  The outgoing correspondence dates from 1888 to 1917 and is contained in letterpress books.  It includes letters to judges, lawyers, sheriffs, and citizens about the progress of particular cases; explanation of actions of the Pardon Board; and notification of the incompleteness of applications with further instructions.  Many of the letters concern the status or disposition of the application of an individual, and in these instances, this outgoing correspondence should be used in conjunction with Series 443, Application Case Files.  In Volumes 1 and 3, the Pardon Board correspondence is intermixed with that of the Board of Commissioners of State Institutions regarding the Florida Hospital for the Insane.
    The bulk of the incoming correspondence is from 1908; with only a few letters from 1889 to 1905.  Incoming correspondence regarding an individual case was filed in the Application Case File upon receipt.  Therefore, this general incoming correspondence usually concerns the administrative activities of the State Board of Pardons as a whole.
    Also included in this series are some miscellaneous records, which include a 1927 prisoner sentence list; 1941-1942 special investigative reports; and 1959 Christmas pardons.
