Biographical/Historical:
Summary:     This series contains homestead occupying claimant files maintained by the State Land Office. The records consist of tax receipts showing that the claimants have paid their land taxes. Information on the tax receipts includes the name of the claimant, a description of the land, the county in which the land is, and the date and amount of tax paid. In accordance with the Florida homestead laws of 1881, homesteaders submitted proof of payment of taxes to the State Land Office as part of the process of obtaining title to the lands they occupied (Chapter 3220, Laws of Florida).
