Biographical/Historical:     The Everglades Drainage District was established in 1913 (Ch. 6456, 1913 Laws) for the purpose of draining and reclaiming lands located near the Everglades for agricultural and sanitary purposes. To carry out this mandate, a system of canals, drains, levees, dikes, dams, locks and reservoirs were constructed.
Summary:     This series contains 164 glass plate negatives relating to the Everglades Drainage District, ca. 1906-1926.  The negatives were maintained by the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund. Included in the series are images of drainage canals, dredging, boats, residences, bridges, locks, and agriculture on reclaimed lands.
