Summary:     The series consists of biological survey reports comprised of information collected in the field by the Bureau of Sanitary Engineering of the State Board of Health from 1950 to 1969, the Division of Health of the Dept. of Health and Rehabilitation Services from 1969 to 1975, and the Division of Environmental Programs of the Dept. of Environmental Regulation.  The program was organized by state biologist William Beck to determine water quality in Florida.  The survey is now known as Beck's Biotic Index, and it is the basis for testing water quality by using the tolerance level of insects as a control.
