The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Council for the Study of Higher Education in Florida was appointed by the Board of Control in 1954 to examine Florida institutions of higher learning and make recommendations for improvements.  It was authorized by legislation passed in 1953 (Ch. 28219, Laws), which instructed the Board of Control to elect an educational consultant to conduct a study to determine the needs of the state in higher education.  The Council was composed of five non-Floridian educational consultants.  It was assisted by an Advisory Committee of six Floridians and local citizens groups. Twenty-four private and state institutions of higher learning participated in the studies.  Some of the areas covered were economics, population, resource use, cost of higher education, costs to students, and legal foundations.  The Council made an initial report in 1955 and their final report in 1956.
Summary:     This series contains the records of the Study of Higher Education in Florida from 1954 to 1956.  Types of materials include correspondence, reports, prospecti, surveys, and minutes.  Subjects include enrollment, budgets, salaries, course and degree offerings, graduate studies, and the Carnegie Foundation.
