The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Citizens Committee on Education was created by executive order on November 17, 1944, and its members were selected by Governor Spessard Holland, Superintendent of Public Instruction Colin English, and Governor-elect Millard Caldwell.  The Committee was responsible for the passage of an education bill that set standards for education and established the Minimum Foundation Program for financing education (Ch. 23726, Laws, 1947).
Summary:     The series contains the records of the Florida Citizens Committee on Education from 1945 to 1947.  The records include correspondence, news releases, reports, and surveys.  It documents actions and recommendations of the Committee.
