The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical: ****DEACCESSIONED****Florida State University is located in Tallahassee, Florida. The institution was chartered in 1851 and has been state-assisted since 1857.  It operated under several different names until 1909, when it became Florida State College for Women.  In 1947, the name was changed to Florida State University and the institution was made coeducational.  It is part of the State University System which is part of the Division of Universities in the Dept. of Education.  The university president is appointed by the Board of Regents.
    Bob E. Leach served as Vice President for Student Affairs from 1978 to 1988.  During his ten-year tenure, he was a strong advocate for student groups and the fair treatment of all students.  He was the highest ranking black administrator at Florida State University at that time.  He resigned in October, 1988 to become an Associate Professor at the College of Education.  He died at age 53 in January, 1989.
