The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical: ****DEACCESSIONED****Florida State University is located in Tallahassee, Florida. The institution was chartered in 1851 and has been state-assisted since 1857.  It operated under several different names until 1909, when it became Florida State College for Women.  In 1947, the name was changed to Florida State University and the institution was made coeducational.  It is part of the State University System which is part of the Division of Universities in the Dept. of Education.  The university president is appointed by the Board of Regents.
  The Florida State University Chaplain's Office was created in 1954 and abolished in 1976.  The Chaplain was available to any university member, faculty or student, who needed counseling and/or other related services.  The Chaplain's Office also offered specific counseling to students interested in the ministry as a profession. The Chaplain reported directly to the university president.  Campus Ministries, a consortium of local clergymen who volunteer their time, has assumed the functions of the Chaplain's Office.
