Biographical/Historical:     Inauguration day for newly elected Florida governors is traditionally the Tuesday after the first Monday in January. The event takes place in Tallahassee, although the first inauguration held on the Capitol plaza was not until 1983 for Governor Graham. The two-day celebration includes both formal and informal social activities such as luncheons, swearing-in ceremonies, parades, and a variety of gala celebrations. Inaugural committees are responsible for planning and overseeing the events and related logistics such as funding, traffic control, security, hotel reservations, invitations and attendees, and other elements of the inauguration ceremonies.

Summary:     The series consists of materials documenting the planning of gubernatorial inaugurations for Florida Governors C. Farris Bryant (1961), W. Haydon Burns (1965), Claude R. Kirk Jr. (1967), Reubin Askew (1971 and 1975), and Bob Graham (1979 and 1983). The records include correspondence and memos between governors and committee members, charts, inauguration day programs, schedules, committee reports, and photographs.
