The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The post of State Chemist was created in 1889 (Ch. 3858, Laws). The Chemist analyzed commercial fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides, oil, gasoline, food, drugs, commercial feeds, and cosmetics.  The Chemist performed analytical, chemical, and assay work for the State Archaeologist and the State Geologist.  The State Chemist was appointed by the Governor to serve a four-year term and was under the supervision of the Commissioner of Agriculture.  The functions of the State Chemist were absorbed by the Division of Chemistry, Department of Agriculture in 1959 (Ch. 59-54, Laws).
