Biographical/Historical Note:     The State Library Board (Ch. 10277, Laws) became the Florida Library and Historical Commission on May 14, 1963 by an act of the Legislature (Ch. 63-39, Laws).  That act changed the name of the Board and enlarged its membership.  The Commission retained the duty of the earlier Board to administer the State Library and was also mandated to administer the historical archives established by the 1963 act.
The new seven member Commission absorbed the Civil War Centennial Commission (Ch. 61-404, Laws) and its members.  Despite the name change, the members of the Commission frequently referred to themselves as the "Library Board."  The State Librarian, the de facto Secretary of the State Library Board, continued to act in that capacity as Secretary of the Commission, keeping the records of the Commission and corresponding with members.
