The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The Division of Licensing was created in 1974 (Ch. 74-272, Laws) as a part of the Dept. of State.  The Legislature assigned to the Division the responsibility for licensing and regulating private detectives, security guards, law enforcement and emergency service associations, repossessors, game promotions, statewide concealed weapons licensure, and all charitable organizations seeking contributions.  The Division also registered all consumer protection organizations.  On January 3, 2003, the effective date of a 1998 constitutional amendment eliminating the office of Secretary of State from the Cabinet and making the department responsible to the governor, the division was transferred to the Dept. of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
