The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The Division of Mental Health was created in 1957 (Ch. 57-317, Laws), as part of the Board of Commissioners of State Institutions, to administer the state's mental hospitals.  Potential patients had to first be cleared through the Division.  The Division had an advisory council consisting of eleven members appointed by the Governor (created for the State Board of Health in 1955 (Ch. 29880, Laws); transferred to the Division in 1965 (Ch. 65-13, Laws)).  The Division became part of the Dept. of Health and Rehabilitative Services in 1969 (Ch. 69-106, Laws).
