Biographical/Historical Note:     The Career Service Commission was created in 1955 as the Merit System Council (Ch. 29933, Laws).  It was renamed the Career Service Council in 1967 (Ch. 67-437, Laws) and became the Career Service Commission, under the Dept. of Administration, in 1969 (Ch. 69-106, Laws).  The Commission consisted of seven members appointed by the Governor.  The Commission heard appeals in cases of suspension, transfer, reduction in pay, layoff, dismissal, or demotion; appeals in cases of retirement or transfer of employees 65 or older; and appeals relating to age discrimination or reasons for not employing a preferred veteran applicant.  The Career Service Commission was dissolved in 1986, with its duties passing to the Public Employees Relations Commission (Ch. 86-163, Laws).
