The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     Lawton Mainor Chiles, the forty-first Governor of Florida, began his gubernatorial term in 1991 after defeating incumbent Governor Bob Martinez.  Chiles served in the State House (1959-1966) and Senate (1966-1970).  Prior to being elected Governor, he had served in the United State Senate from 1970 to 1989.  Chiles died in December 1998, shortly before completing his second term as Governor.
