The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The Senate, the upper house of Florida's State Legislature, is composed of one senator from each of Florida's 40 districts(Ch. 10.103, Florida Statutes). Senators must be at least 21 years of age, be electors and residents of their districts, and have resided in the state for at least two years prior to election. Senators serve four-year terms (Art. III, Sec. 1, 15, 1968 Constitution).
    The presiding officer of the Senate is the President.  From 1865 to 1889, the Lieutenant Governor served as ex officio President of the Senate, casting only a deciding vote in the event of a tie. Until 1968, the Senate President was first in the line of gubernatorial succession.  The Secretary of the Senate is the recording officer and prepares the Journal of Proceedings.  In addition to its legislative duties, the Senate confirms the Governor's appointments to various councils, boards, and commissions.
