The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The Department of Children and Families was created by Section 20.19, Florida Statutes.  The department's secretary is appointed by the Governor. The agency is responsible for the safety, well-being, and welfare of abused, neglected, and abandoned children, the elderly, people with disabilites, and those suffering from mental illness and/or substance abuse problems. It also maintains partnerships with local communities in assisting people to become economically self-sufficient, thereby creating stable families and communities. The department has the overall responsibility of all family services offered by the state.
