The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The State Health Office, under the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, was created in 1988 (Ch. 88-235, Laws of Florida).  It superseded the Health Program Office, the Division of Health, and the State Board of Health.  The Deputy Secretary of Health, who directed the State Health Office, was appointed the State Health Officer.  The first State Health Officer was appointed in 1889 as the executive officer of the State Board of Health (1889, Ch. 3839, Laws).
    The State Health Office was responsible for policy planning, program assessment, standards setting, monitoring, training, and other activities essential to statewide delivery of public health services.  These services included maternal health, child health, school health, dental health, communicable disease control, AIDS prevention, vital statistics, and environmental health.
