The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The Florida Development Commission was created in 1955 (Ch. 29788, Laws of Florida), assuming the duties of the Florida State Improvement Commission and the Florida Advertising Commission.  The Commission promoted tourism and the sale of Florida products; encouraged the employment of Florida citizens; worked to improve trade with other states and countries; provided business assistance; promoted economic development; and was responsible for the control of state revenue bonds.  In 1969, the Florida Development Commission became the Division of Commercial Development under the Department of Commerce, and the control of state revenue bonds passed to the Division of Bond Finance, Department of General Services (Ch. 69-106, Laws).
