The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The State Soil Conservation Board was created in 1937 as the State Soil Conservation Committee (Ch. 18144, Laws of Florida).  The Committee was reformed as the State Soil Conservation Board in 1939 (Ch. 19473, Laws).  From 1939 to 1953, the Board of Control sat as the State Soil Conservation Board.  In 1953 (Ch. 28094, Laws), the Board was reformed to consist of five members, all of whom were farmers practicing soil conservation, appointed by the Governor.  The Board's duties were expanded to include water conservation in 1967 and was renamed the State Soil and Water Conservation Board (Ch. 67-207, Laws).  The Board offered assistance to soil conservation districts, coordinated the programs of the soil conservation districts, secured the assistance of appropriate federal agencies, and disseminated information concerning the activities and programs of the soil conservation districts.
