Biographical/Historical Note:     The Inter-American Center Authority (Interama) was created in 1951 (Ch. 26614, Laws of Florida) and constituted as a corporate agency of the State of Florida to plan, finance, construct, operate, and maintain an Inter-American Cultural and Trade Center in or near Miami, Dade County, Florida.  The proposed center was to be opened in 1976 as a permanent international exposition providing cultural, educational, and trade activities combining the features of an amusement park, world's fair, and trade fair.  Its purpose was to encourage mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and trade among the peoples of North America, South America, Central American, and the Caribbean; to enhance the environment and economy of South Florida; and to provide a setting for the United State Bicentennial Celebration in South Florida.  In 1975, the Authority was abolished without the Interama project ever being finished (Ch. 75-131, Laws).
