Biographical/Historical Note:     The Division of Resource Management was created in 1975 (Ch. 75-22, Laws of Florida) to assume the duties and functions of the Division of Interior Resources, which had been created in 1969 (Ch. 69-106, Laws) as part of the Department of Natural Resources.  The division was charged with the preservation, management, and protection of lands held by the state other than parks, recreational and wilderness areas.  It developed plans and programs of coastal zone management and carried out the responsibilities of boundary determination.  The division promoted the development of an integrated system of waterways within the state and coordinated all agencies charged with the development of such waterways.
When the Division of State Lands was created under the Department of Natural Resources in 1979 (Ch. 79-255, Laws of Florida), it assumed the duties and responsibilities of the Bureau of Coastal and Land Boundaries and the Bureau of State Lands of the Division of Resource Management.  Under the Florida Environmental Reorganization Act of 1993, the Division of State Lands was transferred intact to the new Department of Environmental Protection (Ch. 93-213, Laws).
