Also contains letters written by Brooks for Major-General Quincy Adams Gillmore in Brooks' role as Gillmore's aide-de-camp. Prominent correspondents include Gillmore, Brigadier-General Truman Seymour, Brigadier-General John Hatch, Major Galusha Pennypacker, Colonel Henry Guss, Brigadier-General Rufus Saxton, William H. Brisbane (U. S. Tax Commissioner), Commodore [Stephen?] Rowan, Brigadier-General Alfred Terry, and Colonel Harris Plaisted.
