Title: Media 1979-24: Way Down Upon The Suwannee River, ca. 1956-1958; 24:11; B&W; sound: Opens with an African-American boy fishing on the Suwannee River while Old Folks at Home plays in the background. There are scenes of the Stephen Foster Memorial in White Springs, Florida including the museum and Carillon Bell Tower. There is extensive footage of Florida Folk Festival performers including whip-crackers, musicians, quilt makers, an elderly woman spinning cotton thread, and square dancers. European folk dancers represent Czech, Hungarian and Bavarian styles. There are also examples of Seminole Indian dances and African-American ring dancing and game songs. Segment ends with shots of The Belle of the Suwannee miniature riverboat on the river. Produced by the Stephen Foster Memorial Commission. Duplicate of Media 1979-1. This copy is in better condition.
