Biographical/Historical:     Aaron Tison (1803-1840) was a Florida pioneer who settled in Columbia and Alachua counties with his wife, Louisa Jane Dell Tison (1804-1878). The couple married on January 16, 1825, in Wayne County, Georgia, before moving to the territory of Florida around 1827.
Summary:     This collection includes a property deed from Aaron Tison to John C. Richard, signed March 8, 1834, in Columbia County, Florida. The property outlined in this deed includes 6 enslaved persons, 50 cattle, 3 horses, and 1 Jersey wagon. The enslaved persons included are named as follows: Ben, a 26-year-old Black man; Heddy, a 22-year-old Black woman; Katy, a 30-year-old "mulatto" woman; Maria, a 7-year-old Black girl; Isaac, a 4-year-old Black boy; and Mary, a 1-year-old Black girl. The deed provides a condition that upon the death of John C. Richard, the outlined property would be transferred to Tison's wife, Louisa, and their children.
