Leonard Peyton Clements Burford (1800-1863) was an enslaver from Georgia who primarily owned land in Lawrence County, Alabama. He served in the Confederate Army, receiving his commission as Captain in 1834.
Doctor Edward Bradford (1798-1873) was a pioneer settler of Leon County, Florida. He was also an enslaver and owned the Pine Hill Plantation labor farm.
Samuel Willard Brown (1811-1877) was an enslaver and labor farmer in Iamonia, Leon County from the 1830s until his death. He is buried in Grady County, Georgia.
George T. Brown served in the Confederate Army with the 5th Florida Regiment and resided in Leon County.
Robert Levy and his wife, Martha, were labor farmers and had at least seven children in 1860.
Thaddeus Preston Tatum (1835-1873) was a druggist and served as the mayor of Tallahassee from 1869 to 1870.
Summary:
This collection consists of records of various Leon County residents in the late nineteenth century. The records include:
[1] A bill of sale for an enslaved woman, Fanny (30), and her three sons, Willis (8), Jordon (5), and Peter (1), transferred from C. A. Ried to Leonard P. C. Burford, April 28, 1838 in Memphis, Tennessee.
